People of J&K, including me, were hopeful about both Article 370 and 35A...The scrapping of 35A will put a lot of pressure on our land and jobs. Jammu will be more affected than Kashmir because people are still scared to purchase land in Kashmir or work there. This thing was not taken into consideration. There are hostile countries near this border state...So, facilities need to be given to the people here...Even the Centre didn't think about it. Judiciary overlooked it too. We can't fight the judiciary, we will have to accept their decision but people are not happy...Thanks to the Supreme Court, they ended the uncertainty over elections and statehood..."

SC verdict on Article 370 'disturbing': CPI(M)

In a statement, the Polit Bureau of CPI(M) said, "The verdict says that J&K does not retain any element of sovereignty after the Instrument of Accession was signed and hence rules that the Constitution of J&K is redundant. But, was not signing of the Instrument of Accession conditional to retaining a special status contained in now abrogated Article 370?" "The verdict declares that J&K is like any other state in the Indian Union, thereby depriving it of even the special features granted to the north-eastern states and some others under various clauses of Article 371," it said.

"The court, in its wisdom, found no prima facie case of malafide or extraneous exercise of power in the president's 2019 orders. While acknowledging the temporary reorganisation of the state into Union Territories, the court has directed the Centre to actively pursue the restoration of statehood and the conduct of legislative assembly elections," BCI Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra said in a statement.

On SC verdict on Article 370, Congress MP P. Chidambaram says, "We respectfully disagree with the judgment on the manner in which Article 370 was abrogated. We reiterate the CWC resolution that Article 370 deserved to be honoured until it was amended strictly in accordance with the Constitution of India. We are also disappointed that the honourable Supreme Court did not decide the question of dismembering the state and reducing its status to 2 union territories that question is being reserved for adjudication in a suitable case in the future. The Indian National us has always demanded the restoration of full statehood for what has become the union territory of J&K. We welcome the Supreme Court's verdict in this regard. Full statehood must be restored immediately."

On SC verdict on Article 370, J&K BJP president, Ravinder Raina says "A historical judgement has been made on Article 370. It has stated clearly that the fundamental rights granted in the Constitution shall apply to all the citizens living in J&K...I think there should not be any kind of politics on this judgment. The winter session of the Maharashtra legislature is currently underway in Nagpur, the second capital of the state. "We also hope POK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) is merged into Kashmir so that elections are held in greater Kashmir which is an inseparable part of our country," Thackeray said.

On SC verdict on Article 370, Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Jethmalani says, "It's a historic decision. The whole country should be very happy. The apex court upheld the Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370, which bestowed special status to Jammu and Kashmir, and said steps should be taken to conduct elections in the assembly by September 30 next year.

Supreme Court delivers verdict on petitions challenging the abrogation of J&K's Article 370 and its bifurcation into Union Territories. The five-judge bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, conducted hearings over 16 days. Chief Justice, along with Justices B R Gavai and Surya Kant, authored the operational aspects of the verdict, while Justices Kishan Kaul and Sanjiv Khanna provided separate but concurrent judgments.

The hearing by a five-judge constitution bench comprising chief justice Chandrachud and justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai and Surya Kant commenced on August 2, lasted 16 days over a 35-day period and the order was reserved on September 5.
