NEW DELHI: An Army soldier died of a cardiac arrest during a search operation in a forested area of Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on Friday, officials said. The operation followed a Tuesday encounter in the Dachigam area, where Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Junaid Ahmed Bhat was killed.

Bhat, identified as a category "A" terrorist, was involved in the October 20 attack near a Ganderbal tunnel construction site, which resulted in the deaths of a local doctor and six non-local laborers.

The soldier, identified as Jasvinder Singh from the Army's 34 Assam rifles, suffered cardiac arrest while searching for terrorists in the Faqeer Gujree area of Harwan on Friday morning, officials added.

Security forces have been conducting extensive searches in the region to trace terrorists since Tuesday's encounter.
