The train collision in Vizianagaram district left passengers in a state of chaos and confusion. The remote location and darkness hindered rescue efforts, with injured passengers using mobile phone torches to navigate through the wreckage.

Vizianagaram: It was a few minutes past 7 pm on Sunday when Kola Vara Prasad of Parvathipuram woke up to utter chaos and loud cries of fellow passengers somewhere in Vizianagaram district. Being a passenger of one of the ill-fated coaches of Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train, he was a witness to the commotion that erupted following the train's collision with another passenger train near Alamanda.

The pitch-dark surroundings and remote location made things worse for the accident victims. Confusion and helplessness prevailed, particularly in the first hour after the mishap, with injured passengers trying to climb out of the windows and asking for help.
