Alinagar Election Result Live: Maithili Thakur wins with a decisive margin; defeats RJD's candidate by over 11k votes

Counting for the Alinagar Assembly constituency began on Friday morning amid heightened anticipation, as Bihar recorded a historic voter turnout of 67.13 per cent across the two-phase elections held on November 6 and 11. With 2,616 candidates in the fray for 243 seats, the early hours of counting have already started reflecting key trends from one of the most closely watched constituencies in north Bihar.

Initial rounds showed BJP’s Maithili Thakur taking a strong lead, continuing the momentum seen from the opening minutes of counting. Thakur’s surge is significant as the BJP has never won Alinagar since the seat’s creation in 2008. Her rising vote tally highlights growing support driven by her cultural influence, large youth fanbase, and recent entry into active politics. A well-known folk and devotional singer, Thakur joined the BJP just weeks before the election, drawing considerable public attention. She has long been celebrated for her Maithili, Hindi, and Bhojpuri performances and earned national visibility after appearing at major cultural events and receiving praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

RJD’s Binod Mishra remains her primary challenger, holding on to the party’s traditional vote base. Mishra, who finished second in the 2020 election, is attempting to reclaim the advantage for the RJD in a seat known for producing tight margins. In the previous election, VIP’s Mishri Lal Yadav won by just 3,101 votes, making Alinagar one of the most competitive constituencies in the state. The constituency continues to see both parties mobilising workers aggressively as counting progresses through 24 rounds.

Statewide, counting is taking place across 46 centres under strict security arrangements. Postal ballots were taken up first as per Election Commission protocol, followed by EVM counting at 8.30 am. The high turnout has added to the unpredictability of results, with many constituencies witnessing new voting patterns and shifts in traditional alignments.

As more rounds unfold in Alinagar, the contest is emerging as a key indicator of whether cultural outreach and youth-driven strategies can reshape political equations in north Bihar, or whether caste arithmetic and cadre strength will continue to anchor electoral outcomes.
