Aligarh election results 2024 live updates: Satish Kumar Gautam wins with over 5 lakh votes

The Aligarh Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh is a crucial electoral battleground, with 1,887,127 electors in the 2019 polls and 1,793,126 electors in 2014.

The constituency went to the polls on April 26 during the second phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, recording a voter turnout of 56.93%. Key candidates in the race include Satish Kumar Gautam (BJP), Bijendra Singh (SP), and Hitendra Kumar Alias Bunty Upadhyay (BSP).

As per ECI, BJP's Satish Kumar Gautam won by vote margin of 15,647 votes against SP's Bijendra Singh

In both the 2019 and 2014 elections, Satish Kumar Gautam of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious, securing "656,215 votes in 2019 and 514,622 votes in 2014." His closest competitors were Dr Ajeet Baliyan of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in 2019 with 426,954 votes and Dr Arvind Kumar Singh in 2014 with 227,886 votes.

The Aligarh seat was won by the Congress in 2004 and the BSP in 2009. However, in the 2019 polls, BJP's Satish Kumar Gautam retained the seat, defeating BSP's Ajit Baliyan and Congress candidate Bijendra Singh, who secured only 50,880 votes.

Known for its locks and the prestigious Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the constituency has been largely dominated by the BJP since the 1990s, with a few exceptions in 2004 and 2009. The diverse demographic of the region, which includes a significant Muslim population, makes Aligarh a critical political battleground.

The Aligarh Lok Sabha constituency encompasses five assembly seats: Khair, Barauli, Atrauli, Kol, and Aligarh.
