After formal invitation, BS Yeddyurappa to make 'quiet' comeback into BJP
BANGALORE: After deliberating for months, the BJP finally extended a formal invitation to Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) chief BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday to return to the party.
After getting the nod on Thursday from the BJP higher ups in New Delhi, state party leaders – Prahlad Joshi, Jagadish Shettar, KS Eshwarappa and R Ashoka – met Yeddyurappa in a hotel in Bangalore and asked him to fix a date for his return to the party. The invitation to Yeddyurappa was preceded with the BJP holding its core committee meeting to formalize the former CM’s return.
“Yeddyurappa has no conditions. The process (invitation) has started and will be completed soon,” state BJP president Prahlad Joshi said.
Upset with some of the leaders within the party, the Lingayat strongman had floated KJP in December 2012 and spoiled the BJP candidate's prospects in many constituencies in the May 2013 assembly elections.
Sources said Yeddyurappa will have a soft-return to the party. "While January 5 or 6 was fixed for return, the KJP leader wants to return to BJP after January 15.
"We have left the dates to him," a senior leader said.
Contrary to reports that Gujarat CM Narendra Modi would attend the public rally planned by Yeddyurappa at Davanagere to mark his come back on January 18, sources said none of the central leaders would come. The party has also cleared entry of Yeddyurappa supporters Shobha Karandlaje, MP Renukacharya, CM Udasi, V Dhananjay Kumar among others.
