NEW DELHI: After creating day-to-day controversies for his own party, the BJP MP Subramanian Swamy, has said he will tweet less for a week.
Swamy's statement comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an interview to Times Now on Monday, made it clear that he completely disapproves of his party's MP making disparaging comments about the outgoing RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, finance minister Arun Jaitley and others.
"Whether it is in my party or not, still I think such things are inappropriate. This fondness for publicity is never going to do any good to the nation. People should conduct themselves with utmost responsibility. If anybody considers himself above the system, it is wrong," PM Modi told Times Now.
Saying that there are other things that need his concentration, Swamy on Friday said there would be "few tweets for 1 week'.
The BJP has also sent a strong signal to the Rajya Sabha MP with the cancellation of two functions where he was to speak last week.
Swamy, who regularly takes to Twitter to criticize several bureaucrats and its own government's policies, made no comments about it for the whole of Tuesday, but a semi-philosophical tweet:
However, on Wednesday, Swamy directly replied to PM's 'clear warning' saying:
Swamy has in past publicly attacked RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, chief economic advisor Arvind Subramanian, economic affairs secretary Shaktikanta Das and even finance minister Arun Jaitley on social media.
