After Akhilesh post, EC suspends 2 cops

Acting on cases reported from Bhikanpur and Milak Siri, the poll body removed a sub-inspector, two head constables, and two woman constables from election duty. Based on Yadav's post on X alleging that people from a certain community were being prevented from voting, EC suspended two police personnel in Sisamau assembly constituency in Kanpur.

CEC Rajiv Kumar, taking cognisance of Yadav's complaints, had earlier issued strict directions to the UP chief electoral officer and district election officers to ensure free and fair polls. They were told not only to act on social media complaints, but also publicise the action taken on social media itself.

"No eligible elector should be prevented from voting. No partisan approach will be tolerated and anyone found guilty upon investigation shall face action," Kumar had directed.
