Stampede case: Telangana HC grants 4-week interim bail to actor Allu Arjun
NEW DELHI: Telangana High Court granted 4 weeks interim bail to actor Allu Arjun on Friday, just hours after he was sent to 14-day judicial custody by a local court in connection with a stampede incident at Sandhya Theatre during the Pushpa-2 premiere. The matter will come up for hearing again on January 21, 2025.
The HC said that "right to life and liberty can't be taken away just because he is an actor", adding that it is "apparent that there is no malafide action associated to the petitioner".
The stampede claimed the life of Revathi, a 35-year-old woman, on December 4.
Her son is still undergoing treatment.
Earlier in the day, a police team, headed by the assistant commissioner, arrived at Arjun's home to take him into custody whilt his family members were present.
The authorities escorted him to their vehicle before transporting him to the police station.
The incident took place on December 4, when Allu Arjun's appearance at the theatre, accompanied by his security personnel, prompted an unmanaged rush of people attempting to enter the venue resulting in a stampede situation. Stampede took place due to alleged poor crowd management, which led to lathicharge.

"The theatre management did not make any additional provisions regarding security to manage the crowd nor was there any separate entry or exit for the actors team though the theatre management had information about their arrival," the police had said.
The authorities had previously arrested three individuals, including a co-partner of the theatre, in connection with this incident.

The police had registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under sections 105 and 118(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkadpally police station based on the complaint lodged by the deceased woman's family.
Arjun had also filed a plea to quash the FIR and requested a stay on all further proceedings, including arrest.
