Aarushi-Hemraj murder case: CBI yet to appeal against HC's verdict

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not yet filed an appeal against the Allahabad HC's order that acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in October last year in the Aarushi-Hemraj Murder case, reported ANI.


The investigative agency has 90 days to challenge the acquittal in the apex court.

However, according to a report on ANI quoting CBI sources, it has come to light that top officials in the agency are yet to decide on the matter.

On October 12, 2017, Allahabad High Court had acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj in 2008. The court had opined that the couple could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record.

The HC's verdict ended the nine-year-long ordeal of the victim’s parents who were found guilty by a CBI court for murdering Aarushi and Hemraj.

In December last year, the wife of victim Hemraj had challenged the HC's verdict in Supreme Court.

Challenging the verdict, Hemraj's wife contended that the high court order meant that no one killed the two in 2008 and sought that the guilty must be punished.

Her petition had said it was the primary responsibility of the government and authorities to ensure that the culprit was brought to book as society would not be secure if no one was punished.
