‘AAP may fall just short of majority in Punjab, make a mark in Goa, Uttarakhand’

could fall just short of a majority in the assembly elections in Punjab, while making a significant dent in Goa and Uttarakhand, both of which could see the BJP remain in office opinion polls done for Times Now Navbharat by

have forecast.


If the polls turn out to be correct, it would be a big step in AAP’s national ambitions, which have not quite fructified in the past. The polls project that AAP will win 53-57 seats in the 117-member Punjab assembly, well ahead of the Congress with 41-45 seats. The Akali alliance is estimated to win between 14 and 17 seats while the tie-up between BJP and Captain Amrinder Singh’s fledgling party would struggle to make a mark, the poll forecast.

In Uttarakhand, the poll projects a comfortable win for the BJP with 42-48 seats in the 70-member house. The Congress is estimated to finish a distant second with 12 to 16 seats and AAP to make its entry in the assembly with four to seven seats. While this would mean a reduction in the BJP’s tally from five years back, it could signal another five year term in opposition for Congress which had been hopeful of wresting the hill state from its arch rival.

In Goa, if the polls are right, AAP is set to emerge as the main opposition to the BJP which would just about reach the halfway mark in the 40-member assembly. The poll predicts between 18 and 22 seats for BJP and 7 to 11 seats for AAP. Congress, which had finished as the single largest party in 2017, is predicted to win just four to six seats.

The Trinamool Congress, which has run a high decibel campaign and seen several luminaries switching to its side, is projected to win barely two per cent of the votes.
