A jaadu ki jhappi, a wink & social media
NEW DELHI: Hugs may be silent, yet they speak volumes, said positivity speaker Carol CC Miller. On Friday, Rahul Gandhi’s hugging of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament spoke louder than his words.
Social media was agog with jokes and memes on the hug as well as the wink that followed the act. Around 6.30pm, hashtags Rahul Gandhi and RahulHugsModi were also trending on twitter.
The wink drew comparisons with budding actor Priya Prakash Warrier’s twinkle, arguably the most famous wink in India’s social history.
One meme asked the viewer to compare the two winks. “Which one is better?,” it asked.
The occasion also drew comparison with Sunjay Dutt’s film, Munnabhai MBBS, where the protagonist hugs strangers and calls it, jaadu ki jhappi. In fact, the expression was among the frequently-used hashtags on Friday.

A tired old man run out of ideas chorusing what he said over the last four years without an ounce of grace can only speak what he did the next day. Ofcourse the 53 inch chest and the BJP were shaken. So what can you expect? A repeat of all the same old charges - Hindustan - Pakistan, kabaristan .....The army of trolls is ready and Rahul Gandhi and his party will be thrilled, mercilessly brutalized and the same old and will be dusted out. The lights have changed. Even the majority of the media are in a stupor over the Modi magic that they are half asleep. But, the last man who votes is not the urban, earning and educated voter but the disposed and they outnumber the urbanites. Long live Modi, long live BJP the end is near high.Read allPost comment
