700 students from 36 States/ UTs to showcase their talents at Kala Utsav

NEW DELHI: The ninth Kala Utsav, where students of classes IX to XII from across 36 States/ UTs are competing across 10 arts forms, was inaugurated by union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan at the National Bal Bhawan on Tuesday.

The fest is being held from January 9 to 11, 2024 where 700 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti will showcase their talents in vocal (classical and traditional folk) and instrumental (percussive and melodic) music, dance (classical and folk), visual arts, indigenous toys and games, and drama.

Pradhan said that the Utsav connects the cultural diversity of India by nurturing the creative and artistic talent of school students. “The entire country has faith in the talent and potential of India’s children,” he said.

Pradhan also mentioned how the National Education Policy 2020 will mainstream play-based learning, sports, arts, crafts and all other creative endeavours to further hone the talents and skills of the children, their all-round development and develop them as leaders of the 21st century.

He urged the officials of the ministry of education and other agencies under it to take the Kala Utsav to all the schools of the country and to make arrangements to bring the participation of children in the credit framework.

Minister of state for education, Annpurna Devi was also present on the occasion, along with Sanjay Kumar, secretary, school education, Anandrao Vishnu Patil, additional secretary, school education, and Dinesh Prasad Saklani, director, NCERT.

Two students and a teacher from each of the states and UTs and winners of the Kala Utsav are likely to be invited to the interaction with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 29, during the Pariksha Pe Charcha at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
