As high court directs the UP government to redraw the merit list for the selection of 69,000 teachers more than 3.5 years after they had been recruited, a lowdown on the order and its implications

It was at that time UP's biggest recruitment drive for the selection of 69,000 primary teachers in the basic education department. The state government released an advertisement in December 2018 for the proposed Assistant Teachers' Recruitment Test-2019 (ARTE-2019).

Approximately 4.31 lakh candidates registered out of which 4.09 lakh candidates appeared for the test, which was a qualifying test, on Jan 6, 2019. No caste-based reservation applied here, nor was the cut-off criteria announced before the test.
