NEW DELHI: With the country in the grip of a third wave of coronavirus infections, the central paramilitary forces (CPMF) are not untouched either with over 4,200 active cases now among the seven CPMFs.

CISF, which has a high level of public dealing as it handles security of airports across the country, is the most affected with over 1,500 active cases, followed by the CRPF that has over 1,100 personnel down with Covid-19 as on date.

As many as 729 persons are currently infected with coronavirus in the BSF, 562 in Sashastra Seema Bal, 48 in NSG, 249 in the ITBP and 57 in NDRF (ITBP and NDRF figures as on January 10, 2022).

In the last 24 hours alone, CISF added 208 cases, CRPF nearly 200, BSF 110, SSB 113 and NSG, 18.

Ever since the outbreak of

Covid

in 2020, close to 348 central paramilitary personnel have died and 93,000 central paramilitary personnel have got infected. The CRPF leads the chart with over 27,000 infected cases and 132 deaths, followed by BSF which had logged 90 deaths and over 25,000 infected cases and CISF with 83 deaths and over 22,000 infected cases since March 2020.

Of the nearly 93,000 paramilitary personnel who tested positive since the beginning of the pandemic, over 88,000 recovered.
