4 cops, minor & her kin charged with killing teen after 'elopement'
BIJNOR/SHAMLI: Four police officers - one of them from another jurisdiction and off duty - and a minor girl along with two members of her family have been charged with murder and conspiracy after a teenager accused of eloping with her was found hanging at the home of a sub-inspector (SI) who was investigating the case and leading the team that brought the couple back to Bijnor from Ambala in Haryana on Monday morning.
However, instead of taking Deepak Kumar, 19, to Seohara PS in Bijnor, SI Sunil Kumar took the youth to his house Sunday night. He was travelling with head constable Rajiv Kumar and woman constable Annu Rani. The girl's family, including her father, uncle, and cousin, a constable posted at Bareilly PS who was on leave, the Bijnor police team to Ambala.
The SI said Deepak had "hanged himself" and took the body to Shamli police station without informing his seniors in Bijnor or local authorities. He said they stopped at his father's house in Shamli as their car broke down. "Deepak was locked in a room on first floor while all of us slept downstairs. He was found hanging from a railing around 5.30am and the window to his room was open, and he may have tried to escape."
Deepak's father filed an FIR on Monday night. Shamli SHO Samaypal Atri said, "A case has been filed against seven persons - including the minor girl - under BNS sections 103(1) (murder) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy).
