SRINAGAR: At least four civilians were killed and two others injured in Pakistani shelling along the Line of Control (LoC) in Karnah sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, according to a defence spokesman.
The four civilians who were killed have been identified as Mohammad Yaqoob, Abdul Rashid, Bashir Ahmad and Rajwali Piswal. They were working with the Army as porters.
The four who died were killed on the spot. The injuries of the other two are said to be serious.
Sources say Pakistani troops have been resorting to intermittent fire along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir to push in armed militants. There has been a sharp increase in infiltration with the onset of spring, said the spokesman.
Pakistani shelling was retaliated by the troops guarding the border and the gun battle continued till late on Friday evening.
This the third time that Pakistani troops have fired towards Indian positions this week. Pakistanis fired such mortars in Kargil sector earlier this week damaging several houses here.
