377 websites hosting child porn blocked

NEW DELHI: The government has come down heavily on

child pornography

with as many as 377 websites hosting such material blocked, women and child development minister Smriti Irani said in

Rajya Sabha

Thursday.


Irani was responding to remarks by AIADMK MP Vijila Sathyanath who called for a complete ban on child pornography. The minister said that 50 FIRs had been filed. "Everything is still easily available on internet. Government must completely ban these things on social media and

internet

and save our children," she said.

Rajya Sabha chairman Venkaiah Naidu too expressed concern saying that it was "important for local authorities to take action".
