CHENNAI: Twenty-eight women of a garment export factory in the suburban industrial estate of Ambattur fell unconscious while at work, following the leakage of methyl acetate stored in a drum in a nearby chemical factory.
However, no casualty has been reported.
The women, working in Bombay Fashions, were rushed to the nearby Rotary Hospital by the local Fire and Rescue Services personnel.
They are stated to be out of danger. One of the women, however, complained of chest pain and was moved to a private hospital.
Investigations are on to ascertain the cause of the leakage of methyl acetate, preserved in Wilson Aromatic Ltd, which had turned gaseous.
