23 convicted for death of 24 cops in 2010 WB Reds attack

West Midnapore: Fourteen years after Bengal saw its worst Maoist attack, West Midnapore district court on Tuesday convicted all 23 accused for the Feb 15, 2010 ambush at Silsa camp of Eastern Frontier Rifles (EFR) that left 24 jawans dead.

Five most-wanted Maoists guerrillas had also been killed in counter-firing by the forces.

The trial had started against 24 people, but prime accused and CPI (Maoist) leader Sudip Chongdar died during the proceedings.

Additional district and sessions judge Salim Shahi pronounced all 23 accused guilty under various provisions of UAPA and IPC.

While 22 accused, including 10 who were on bail, were produced in court, one Buddheswar Mahato was ill and brought outside the court in an ambulance.
