2000 kilometres of vulnerable Pakistan/Bangladesh border identified for CIBMS: BSF DG Sharma
INDORE: BSF has identified vulnerable patches on a 2000km stretch of Pakistan and
Two pilot projects of first-of-its-kind CIBMS - each covering 5.5 km border stretches in Jammu – will be launched by home minister Rajnath Singh on September 17.
"We have identified vulnerable areas on both Pakistan and Bangladesh borders. Around 2000 km border. We are going to roll out CIBMS in a phased manner in future. We may give priority to Pakistan border," Sharma said on the sidelines of his visit to Central School for Weapons and Tactics (CSWT) here.
CIBMS is also being installed on a 60 km border patch in Dhubri district in Assam, on Brahmaputra river, he said adding terrain will be the deciding factor of the equipment that will be used. In Brahmaputra, underwater sensors will be installed.
CIBMS involves deployment of a range of state-of-the-art surveillance technologies — thermal imagers, infra-red and laser-based intruder alarms that form an invisible land fence, aerostats for aerial surveillance, unattended ground sensors that can help detect intrusion bids through tunnels, radars, sonar systems to secure riverine borders, fibre-optic sensors and a command and control system that shall receive data from all surveillance devices in real time.
The BSF DG said technology for CIMBS has been procured from various parts of the globe including Israel, the US and European nations. The CIBMS will give relief to the personnel from the constant patrolling in harsh conditions. It will also strengthen border guarding.
"Technology does not go to sleep. It can work 24 hours, 12 months with efficiency. So we will shift from patrolling to Quick response Team (QRT) system," he said. Our men are being trained on the CIBMS by people who have installed it, he added.

A lot of Muslims are infiltrated from Pakistan and Bangladesh in India. This need to be checked. If Pakistan and Bangladesh was created for Muslims why Muslims are leaving that place and coming to Hindustan. Population of Hindus in Pakistan in 1951 was 15% and now it is 1%. Population of Hindus in Bangladesh in 1951 was 25% and now it is less than 10%. Population of Muslims in India in 1951 was less than 10% and now it is 20%.
