2 men who stole nearly 500 luxury cars arrested

NEW DELHI: Two men were arrested for stealing nearly 500 luxury cars in a massive interstate theft racket.

The duo targeted high-end vehicles across multiple states. On Nov 19, a tip-off from a source led the south district police team to set up a trap near Shooting Range Road, MB Road, Sangam Vihar, where Burhan (49) was expected to deliver a stolen car. "When Burhan attempted to flee on being signalled to stop, the team intercepted the car," a police officer said.

During a search, police found a country-made pistol and two live cartridges. Upon further questioning, Burhan was identified, and the car was found to be stolen from Model Town earlier this year.

Burhan led the police to Sikander Rahman (46), another member of the syndicate. Sikander's arrest resulted in the recovery of a second stolen car and another country-made pistol with a live cartridge. "The duo were part of a well-organised gang that stole high-end luxury cars in Delhi and neighbouring states, which were then transported and sold in the northeastern states, including Manipur, Assam and Mizoram," said DCP (south) Ankit Chauhan. Their operations were systematic, with each member playing a specific role in stealing, concealing and distributing the vehicles.
