2 Kerala men executed in UAE for murders

Two Kerala natives convicted in murder cases and sentenced to death in the UAE have been executed. The MEA identified them as Muhammed Rinash A and Muraleedharan P V.

Rinash of Kannur was convicted in a case involving the murder of a UAE national. He had been working in a travel agency in Al Ain prior to his arrest. Muraleedharan was sentenced for the murder of a fellow Indian immigrant. UAE informed the Indian embassy on Feb 28 about the executions, after which the mission got in touch with their families. MEA said the embassy had provided all possible consular and legal assistance to the two.

An MEA release said that the Indian embassy had submitted mercy petitions and pardon requests, but the UAE's highest court upheld their death sentences. The embassy is now trying to arrange the families' participation in the last rites, MEA said.

A UP woman was executed in Abu Dhabi on Feb 15 for the murder of an infant.
