12 sites for human trials of coronavirus vaccine in India

NEW DELHI: India started the human clinical trial of indigenously developed

Covid-19 vaccine

candidates earlier this week.


Covaxin by Bharat Biotech and ZyCov-D vaccine by Zydus Cadila are India's own efforts to bring a vaccine for this pandemic. The government also six Indian companies are working on a vaccine for Covid-19.

Twelve sites have been selected by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to conduct the trials for the vaccine.

  1. AIIMS, DelhiA 30-year-old becomes the first in Delhi to be administered the vaccine. Up to 100 volunteers to get the jab.
  2. Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, HyderabadTwo volunteers given the shot on Monday, another two to be given the vaccine by Saturday. Total 60 to be covered.
  3. PGMIS, RohtakThree volunteers given the vaccine on July 17. Total of 20 persons covered so far. Second dose due on July 31.
  4. SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, ChennaiTwo volunteers get the jab on Thursday. Next dose on the 14th day.
  5. AIIMS, Patna11 volunteers given vaccine on July 15. Second dose on July 29. Total of 18 volunteers selected.
  6. Redkar Hospital, Goa11 volunteers to receive the dose on Saturday. Total 50 volunteers lined up for the first phase.
  7. Gillurkar Multispeciality Hospital and Research Centre, NagpurTen candidates shortlisted. Screening underway, first vaccine by July-end/August first week
  8. Sum Hospital, Bhubaneswar60 candidates from Bengal applied. The screening began on July 20, vaccine to be administered in a few days.
  9. Jeevan Rekha Hospital, Belagavi (Karnataka)200 candidates to be given vaccines, 'which is expected to come soon'.
  10. King George Hospital, VisakhapatnamDirector of medical education, Andhra Pradesh, yet to give permission.
  11. Prakhar Hospital, KanpurVaccine awaited
  12. Rana Hospital, GorakhpurVaccine awaited
