Data indicates emigration from India will increase for few more decades. That’s not bad news
Two recent events have brought the emigration of Indians and an old phrase ‘brain drain’ back into public conversation. First, the appointment of IIT-Bombay alum Parag Agrawal as the CEO of Twitter. Second, the match-saving knocks of Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel for New Zealand in the Kanpur Test match.
All three people represented first- or second-generation migrations from India and thus the natural query: Has emigration from India increased or decreased in recent times? Or has there been a dominating Swades effect, referring to the 2004 movie that portrayed a US-based NASA scientist returning to India to do good for his country?
