"Warm greetings to every citizen on the festival of Diwali, Happy Diwali," Modi tweeted.

President Pranab Mukherjee greets nation on Diwali

President Pranab Mukherjee greeted the nation on the festival of Diwali saying that it may dispel "darkness of ignorance" and "illumine our lives with hope and prosperity".

"Warm greetings and best wishes to all my fellow citizens in India and abroad on the auspicious occasion of Diwali," Mukherjee wrote in a series of tweets.

"May the lighting of lamps this year dispel darkness of ignorance and suffering and illumine our lives with hope and prosperity," he said.
