This week, Bollywood tosses a choice between the murky and the musical. Padam Kumar''s Supari and Sujoy Ghosh''s directorial debut Jhankaar Beats are as different as can be.

While Supari chronicles the ups and downs in lives of suburban youth whose greed for money leads them into the murky underworld, Jhankaar Beats, resounds with the music of life.

Touted as a tribute to the great RD Burman, Ghosh''s film is about three young advertising professionals-Rahul Bose, Sanjay Suri and newcomer Shayan Munshi- who sing, dance and create mischief while preparing for a musical competition titled (you guessed it right) Jhankaar Beats.
1x1 polls
Juhi Chawla, Rinke Khanna and Riya Sen make up the female leads.

According to producer Pritish Nandy, "Jhankaar Beats is a fun film, one that takes the definition of entertainment to new areas." Supari, on the other hand with stars Uday Chopra, Rahul Dev, Purab Kohli, Akaash Saigal and Nauheed Cyrusi is a noir film. What makes the film an exciting proposition is the presence of talent house Nandita Das who is making one of her rare appearances in a commercial film.

She enacts the role of an underworld don and has an interesting look complete with a new wardrobe and kohl lined eyes, to showcase. Actor Uday Chopra sees Supari as a new beginning in his career since this is his first venture outside his own production house, Yash Raj Films. Uday emphasises that Supari is not like Satya or Kaante. "It is not about goondas and sociopaths. It''s about decent, middle class boys getting swept into a world of violence. What is violent about Supari is the thought that the guy who is sitting next to you in college could already be sucked into a world of crime."

Incidentally, both films feature a hit musical score by Vishal-Shekhar. Bollywood is hoping the music magic will translate into equally musical box office returns.
