The 30-year-old looked warmly into her father's eyes, who had come to the city to bail her out.
Though besieged by shutterbugs and media people Monica didn't flinch at all. "I thank God and am happy," she said , as she hurried to get into the car that was waiting to whizz her off.
She whispered into someone's ears that she was boarding a flight to get home, in Cheddawal, Punjab. "I might miss my flight," she said eager to get away.
But the former Bollywood actress plans to come back to pursue her career in the film industry here.
Interestingly, there seem to be more offers from Tollywood than Bollywood. The Telugu industry producers are keen on making a film that will tell the story of her life and time in prison.

There are stories to share for sure. For instance, while serving her term here, which lasted 21 months, she was quite enthusiastic about teaching English to the inmates. R Sharada, superintendent of the prison, says, "Monica tutored inmates who are allowed to appear for Open University exams .
She loved to teach. Amidst other things, she also began her day with meditation and yoga classes for other convicts ."
Yoga coupled with spiritual sessions with counsellors seemed to have given her the strength to go through the ordeal . "'I am in a lot of pain, but prayer helps' ," she shared with counsellor Swarna Mehta.
Jireh Abraham, of an NGO said, "It was interesting to see her walk into the prison with her own copy of the Bible. She knew which page to turn to while the readings were made. She would kneel and pray."
Her pleasant demeanour won her many friends and sympathisers. Pradeep Kumar, her advocate says, "The Portugal prison had cut down her term by six months and had even given her a certificate of good conduct.
She wasn't just a nice person but also confident and clever and knew how to wade through her legal process."
