Indians are looking for answers on which mask is the best for
coronavirus to how New Zealand defeated the coronavirus, according to the top trending questions on
Google in the month of June. Besides questions on symptoms and treatments, other trending queries include whether the virus is weakening, when the Covid-19 vaccina will be in India, and the poignant question, “Will the coronavirus ever end?”.
Overall, even as Covid-19 cases continue to rise, coronavirus-centric searches over the month dropped -66% in comparison to May, even though volumes remained more than double that of February.
This is similar to the patterns in May, when search interest for coronavirus had dropped and was half the monthly volumes for April.
The top trending coronavirus searches in June were “coronavirus news” and “vaccine for coronavirus latest update”, which spiked by +1350%. Vaccine-related searches reached a new record high in May, and continued to remain elevated in June. Some breakout vaccine-related searches included “Global vaccine summit” and “Dexamethasone”, the low-cost steroid that was found to have life-saving potential for critically-ill coronavirus patients in British clinical trials. The top states with the most searches for coronavirus in June were Goa, Delhi, Chandigarh, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Tripura, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
However, the top trending topics in India during June were
Sushant Singh Rajput, with searches for the late actor rising sharply after his death on June 14. Other trending topics included the solar eclipse and Father’s Day. In comparison, in May, the top trending search term had been “Lockdown 4.0”.
