Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has sought detailed suggestions from state governments by May 25 over holding the Class 12 CBSE board exams this year in view of the Covid situation. The minister has asserted that "an informed, collaborative" final call will be taken at the earliest. Meanwhile, the CBSE has proposed different options to hold the examinations, including conducting them only for 'major subjects', either in the usual format or schools holding it for their students in a shorter format and duration. Gujarat govt seeks feedback from stakeholders
The Gujarat government will conduct the GSHSEB class 12 board exams once the Covid-19 situation is under control. "We will consider the option of holding the Class 12 GSHSEB board exams after taking feedback from principals and schools and academicians, among others. The option of reducing the exam duration will also be considered," said Gujarat education minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama.

The final decision on the fate of Class 12 board exams will be based on widest possible consultative process, and it will also be the best possible option keeping in mind the current situation and students' future prospects, government sources said on Monday.

Goa govt to take a decision in two days
The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that a decision had not been taken vis a vis Class XII exams yet. The Goa govt earlier cancelled the upcoming Class X board exams, due to the rising number of Covid cases in the state. Sawant said that Class X students will instead be assessed according to their already accrued internal marks.

Kerala govt to support Centre on CBSE 12th board exam decision
Kerala government has informed the Centre that it is ready to provide all measures for the smooth and safe conduct of the CBSE Class XII board examinations, if the central education ministry decides to proceed with the exams. The Kerala government also suggested vaccinating students before the exams. State education minister V Sivankutty said measures were taken to complete the evaluation of Class X and XII public examinations, held by the state in April, by June end and announce results by July first week.

Telangana likely to go ahead with Inter exams
The Telangana government is planning to go ahead with its intermediate board exams, in tune with the Central Board of Secondary Education’s plan. The Union minister of education Ramesh Pokhriyal held a national-level consultation with government officials from all the states on Sunday to discuss conducting the class 12 exams and professional courses entrance exams. Various options regarding the methodology, process, duration, and timings of the exams were discussed.

Tamil Nadu govt in favour of conducting 12th board exams
The Tamil Nadu government is in favour of conducting Class XII board exams after the decline of Covid-19 cases. "The central government discussed conducting CBSE Class XII board exams and the schedule of the exams whether to conduct the exam in July or August. Each state gave their own views depending on the prevailing situation in their respective state. Class XII exams are very important in deciding higher studies and careers for students. There is no use in giving them all a pass. All states are in favour of conducting the exam. So, we are also in favour of conducting the exam," Tamil Nadu school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamohzi told reporters here after attending the online meeting.

Karnataka in favour of 2nd PUC exams
Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar said it was necessary to hold second year Pre-University (class 12) exams, in the interest of students' future. An appropriate decision will be taken in the days to come, considering various aspects and the Centre's suggestions, he said.

CBSE in favour of conducting 12th board exams; date to be announced by May 30
The CBSE Class XII examination is likely to be conducted and its date and format to be announced by Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on May 30. Education Ministry sources told ANI that the majority of states/UTs are in favour of conducting the CBSE Class XII examination.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday suggested two options for conducting the Class 12 board examinations amid the Covid pandemic during a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Union defence minister Rajnath Singh. Most states are in favour of holding the board examinations and will explore the options suggested by the CBSE. The Centre has said that the final decision on the matter will be taken soon.

Decision on UP Board exams after discussions with CM: Edu minister Dinesh Sharma
UP's deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said decision on UP board class 10 and 12 exams will come after discussions with the CM Yogi Adityanath. He also said that the board results will be declared within one month of conducting the exams. The date of commencement of exams (for class 12 or both class 10 & 12) will be decided after consonance from the CM.

The Goa government has cancelled Class X exams in the state in view of the COVID-19 outbreak and a decision on Class XII exams would be taken in the next two days, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Sunday. The decision has been taken on the recommendation of a committee comprising Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary School Education and education department officials as well as experts in the field, and Class X marks would be allotted based on the internal assessment of examinations held in academic year 2020-21, he said.

Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia on Sunday said the Delhi government is not in favour of conducting Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class XII exams and they will write to the Centre suggesting the same. "The Delhi government is not in favour of conducting Class XII exams and we will write to the Centre regarding the same. In today's meeting with the Centre, I appealed that we cannot put students' lives at risk by following the tradition of exams," Sisodia said.

The Tamil Nadu government is in favour conducting Class XII board exams after the decline of Covid-19 cases. The state government on Sunday informed the central government at a high level meeting chaired by defence minister Rajnath Singh and education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on conducting Class XII exams and entrance examinations for professional courses.

Even as students continue to demand for cancellation of Class XII exams, many educationists are divided on the issue. While some feels that holding the exam even for “major subjects in a shorter format runs the risk of becoming a super-spreader others feel it would be unfortunate if they had to be cancelled. CBSE’s one of the proposal was that exams to be conducted in “major subjects” and in a shorter format on which experts feel that it’s not safe to conduct any exam of more than 15 minutes and six feet social distancing is not adequate.

'Delhi govt not in favour of holding board exams'
Sisodia said that since the third Covid wave is likely to impact students, the Delhi government is not in favour of conducting exams in any form. "We have proposed to conduct Class 12 exams like class 10, on the basis of historical references. We've conveyed the same to the Centre," he said after the meeting.
