Doordarshan is celebrating its 57th birthday today (September 15) and we still have some sweet memories of the golden days. In today’s time, we have the luxury of switching to different channels but the joy of watching classic TV shows on Doordarshan was something else. Jungle Book

Small screen show Jungle Book was an adaptation of Rudyard Kaipling's original collection of stories. A small series of 52 episodes was aired in 1989.

Shaktimaan

Popularly known as the first Indian superhero, Shaktiman was one of the most watched TV shows across India. Mukesh Khanna received immense popularity by playing the lead role in the show. The show was quite famous among all the age groups.

Chitrahaar

Chitahar was one of the longest running film-based shows in TV history. It was widely watched in the 1970s. Chitrahar used to air for half an hour every Friday on prime time.

Malgudi Days

If you are an 80s kid, you will surely remember the popular 'Malgudi Days', a TV series based on the works of one of the best cartoonists R.K.Laxman. The stories in the series revolved around little Swami and his friends, who used to roam around the streets of Malgudi. The series was made in 1986.

Ramayan

Ramayan is an Indian epic television series, aired during 1987-1988. The show was written and directed by Ramanand Sagar. It was a television adaptation of the Hindu religious epic, and was primarily based on Valmiki's Ramayana and Tulsidas' Ramcharitmanas.
