Neal Mohan replaces Susan Wojcicki who has stepped down as YouTube CEO.
YouTube CEO Wojcicki is one of the first Google employees.
The change of guard comes as YouTube is vying for viewing time with TikTok and streaming services like Netflix.
Wojcicki said that she will focus on "family, health, and personal projects".
Wojcicki said that she would help with the CEO transition process, but that longer term, she would take on an advisory role across Google and Alphabet.
“Neal has a wonderful sense for our product, our business, our creator and user communities, and our employees and will be a terrific leader for the video sharing platform.”
Susan Wojcicki has stepped down as the CEO of YouTube after 25 years.
He has been Wojcicki's top deputy for years, moving over from Google's ads business to YouTube in 2015.
Mohan joined Google with the DoubleClick acquisition in 2007.
Neal has held various roles over the years with the company. These include working with Google Display Network, AdSense, AdMob, DoubleClick and YouTube.
Neal has been serving as the chief product officer for YouTube since 2015.
Neal has been focusing on building YouTube Shorts and Music.
Mohan is a graduate in electric engineering from Stanford University.
He started his career at Accenture as a Senior Analyst in 1996.
Neal Mohan has also worked at Microsoft.
Neal sits on the board of Stitch Fix and genomics and biotechnology company 23andMe.
Neal Mohan has led several strategic startup acquisitions like Invite Media, Admeld, and Teracent to bolster Google’s advertising offerings.
