Text formatting tools available for all WhatsApp users

WhatsApp has unveiled four additional text formatting features, offering users more flexibility in customizing their messages. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the same on his WhatsApp Channel. According to the company, these new formatting options are designed to enhance communication efficiency, particularly in group chats, helping users save time. These new options complement the existing four text formatting choices available to users. They are available for all Android, iOS, Web, and Mac desktop users.

2/9

Bulleted lists

Users can now create bulleted lists on WhatsApp. To utilise this feature, users can input the '-' symbol, followed by a space, and then proceed to type the message intended to be bulleted.

3/9

Numbered Lists

The Numbered Lists formatting feature serves to document a specific sequence of items, such as instructions or a summary of events. Similar to the bulleted list, it employs numbers instead of dots to indicate the order. To use this option, users must type a number like 1 or 2, followed by a dot (.) and one space. The message typed after this will be numbered.

4/9

Block quote

The option is used to highlight key text in a message and make it more noticeable. To employ this feature, users can input the '>' symbol followed by a space. Subsequently, any message typed will display with a grey bar in front of it.

5/9

Inline Code

It helps distinguish specific information within a sentence. To use the option, type ` symbol at the front and the end of the message.

6/9

Bold

This feature is utilised to emphasise either a specific section or the entirety of a message. To activate it, users can enclose the message with asterisks (*) at the beginning and end.

7/9

Italic

Italic formatting enables users to italicize either a portion or the entire message by enclosing it with underscores (_) at the beginning and end.

8/9

Strikethrough

Strikethrough entails displaying words with a horizontal line through their center. Users can activate this feature by typing the tilde (~) at the beginning and end of the message.

9/9

Monospace

Monospace refers to a font where each letter and character occupies an equal amount of horizontal space. To utilize this feature, users can enclose the message with triple backticks (```) at the beginning and end.
