“Like and earn” scams or engagement scams are a type of fraud where scammers ask people to engage with social media content on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and others while offering them financial rewards for liking, commenting and/or sharing these posts with the intentions of stealing data or asking for an initial fee payment. Here’s how you can avoid falling victim to such scams
Do not make payments upfront
Never respond to requests for an upfront fee payment on social media platforms. If an offer for easy money seems too good to be true, chances are it is.
Never click on suspicious links
Do not click on suspicious links sent via email or texts on social media platforms as they can be used to steal data or install malware. Do your research on the sender organisation to check their legitimacy and verify their offers.
Do not share personal or financial information
Never share your personal or financial information with anyone over social media.
Report suspicious activity
If you are suspicious of an account or offer made to you online, report the incident to the social media platform you are using.
