This is the most-watched YouTube video right now
We now officially have a new winner of the ‘most-watched YouTube video of all-time’ title. Pinkfong’s wildly popular kids’ song “Baby Shark” crossed 7.05 billion views to become the most-watched YouTube video ever. For close to three years, the title was held by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s catchy song “Despacito”.
“Baby Shark” was launched on YouTube in November 2015 and has a catchy tune. The lyrics are also easy to remember and so are the dance movies in the video. The song was recorded by PinkFong, which is a subsidiary of South Korean company SmartStudy.
The popular kids’ song video since last April has seen a massive 181% growth in views, as per a report by The Verge. In April 2019, the video had close to 2.5 billion views. Not just that, since its launch, there have been more than 1 million cover vides of Baby Shark as well.
“Without the love and support of fans around the world, Baby Shark's new record would have been impossible," says Min Seok Kim, CEO, SmartStudy, in a press statement. “We're very honoured by this record and will continue to focus on delivering high-quality entertainment beyond the digital platforms.”
The other most-watched videos on YouTube are Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” that has over 5 billion views and Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” (4.8 billion views). At number five and six are two other kids’ videos — “Masha the Bear” and “Johny Johny Yes Papa” with 4.4 billion and 4.15 billion views respectively.
The once-popular Psy’s “Gangnam Style” is now the eighth most-watched video of all-time on YouTube.
