How to convert any website into an app for smartphones and PCs

Google has been offering users the option to create ‘Progressive Web Apps (PWA)’ for a website and use it as an app on their smartphones, tablets and PCs. However, the functionality was limited to those websites that support the PWA feature.

However, Google is removing the limitation of PWAs by allowing users to convert any website into an app using Chrome.

In the latest version of Chrome Canary update (Chrome Canary 124), Google has added an option allowing users to install any website or even a particular webpage as an app on their PCs.

We expect this feature to expand to smartphones and other devices as well.

Meanwhile, if you want to give this feature a try, here’s our step-by-step guide:

First, download the Chrome Canary 124 on your PC. For this, head to Chrome’s official website and head to the Canary option. Download the latest version available and install it.

• Once done, open the browser, head to any website
• Click on three dots at the top right corner
• Select Save and Share option
• Select ‘Save page as app’ option

After this, the website or the webpage will be installed as an app in your device.

Note: This is currently in Chrome Canary which is a beta version of the Chrome browser where Google pushes new features and then collects feedback. There’s a possibility that some features, websites or functionality may get compromised or will not work properly. So, it is advisable not to make this your primary browser and use it only for trying out the new features.
