Popular first-person shooter series ‘Counter Strike’ may have another sequel under development at Valve’s studio. As per e-sports journalist Richard Lewis, the online FPS game, titled ‘Counter-Strike 2’, may even roll out its beta programme in the next few months.

Ever since ‘Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’ (CS: GO) – the latest game in the franchise – was released in 2012, there have been rumours and speculations about its sequel. After a long wait of over a decade, it seems like ‘CS: GO’ fans may finally have something to be excited for.

Counter-Strike 2, a priority for Valve right nowAs per the report, Counter-Strike 2’s development has been well underway for “some time” now and sources with internal information have revealed the game is “about ready to go.” There are talks of the beta launch ‘tentatively’ taking place as soon as between March and April 1.

Moreover, the project is reportedly the main priority for Valve. According to the source, putting most resources behind the development of Counter-Strike 2 is a reason why ‘CS: GO’ maintenance has stalled in recent times. The report quoted a source that said, “The big priority is getting this out and then polishing it, fixing any bugs and bringing it up to the level people expect from CS.”

The sequel will come with improved graphics and better online matchmakingFurthermore, the report mentions that Counter Strike 2 is set to leverage the power of Valve’s Source 2 game engine. This means that the new game will introduce visual and performance-centric improvements over its predecessor. However, players on low-end systems who can currently play ‘CS: GO’ without issues may not have the same experience playing its sequel.

Elsewhere, online matchmaking is also tipped to see improvements. However, at the outset, Counter-Strike 2 may stick to using the same matchmaking process available in its predecessor. This facet of the sequel is said to be “an ongoing work” and will get better with time.
