Apple to help iPhone users track their lost AirPods Pro and AirPods Max
Apple will be soon rolling out a new feature with the iOS 15 release that will enable iPhone users to track their lost AirPods Pro and AiPods Max. With iOS 15 update, Apple will add support for ‘Find My’ network. “Use the Find My network to get an approximate location of your missing AirPods Pro or AirPods Max. This will help you get within Bluetooth range so you can play a sound and locate them,” said Apple in its support page.
Apple hasn’t revealed the date of releasing the feature yet and have just mentioned “Coming later this fall.”
Apple is releasing a major update to the FindMy app ecosystem with iOS 15 update. If you lose your iPhone and the device is switched off even then you will be able to track the location of your lost iPhone with the FindMy network. This feature will be available to newer iPhones. Apple had introduced Bluetooth-tracking of devices using the FindMy app ecosystem with iOS 13. However, the biggest issue was when the device was turned off tracking it was not possible.
With the iOS 15 update, if your iPhone gets stolen and the thief decides to turn it off even then you will be able to track it. The only way someone can disable the FindMy app tracking is by removing the iCloud account of the owner of the iPhone. And for that the thief needs to crack your iCloud account which would be quite a difficult task.
Having said that, only newer iPhones, like iPhone 11 and above, will support this feature. This is because Apple is using Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. This is the same tech Apple is using in AirTag to spot lost objects.
