In an unprecedented crackdown, police entered the campus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) here late on Tuesday night with a list of names of 17 students and took four of them into custody around 1.15am on Wednesday.

High drama prevailed at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) on Monday night with the protesting students gheraoing director Prashant Pathrabe for nearly six hours over his determination to go ahead with the assessment of films of the 2008 batch.

The Sangh Parivar's students' wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Pune, which has led several students' agitation and participated in college bandhs, on Saturday stood outside the Film and Television Institute of India's (FTII) gates demanding the students withdraw their strike.

A team of senior I&B officials will visit FTII on Wednesday after a two-month-old strike reached a flashpoint with the police being called on campus to disperse students who had "gheroed" director Prashant Pathrabe.

After going on a flash strike, students of the prestigious FTII on Saturday decided to continue their protests against the appointment of BJP member and TV actor Gajendra Chauhan as the new chairman of its governing council.
