Story: Tanjiro Kamado joins the Demon Slayer Corps with the goal of reversing his sister Nezuko's transformation from a demon into a human. As the Upper Six Demons are defeated, the remaining Upper Rank Demons convene to strategize their next moves.
Review: "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – To the Swordsmith Village" is a movie that merges the final two episodes of the "Demon Slayer: District Entertainment Arc" with the first episode of the upcoming "Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village Arc." As a result, the film doesn't provide any fresh content and merely recaps the previous series while providing a sneak peek of what's to come. However, the cinematic experience elevates the viewing experience, showcasing the series' splendor in a stunning manner.
The movie commences with Tanjiro wounded and his comrades Nezuko and Inosuke unconscious after defeating a pair of demon siblings, who were also among the top six most powerful demons. Tanjiro needs the blood of one of the demons to revert his sister back to human form. Meanwhile, the other high-ranking demons are contemplating their next move upon hearing about the Upper Rank Six's defeat. Tanjiro's sword used in the battle is now damaged and ineffective, compelling him to travel to the secretive swordsmith village in search of a new one. However, to his surprise, the swordsmith is nowhere to be found upon arrival.
The movie deserves praise for its exceptional use of CGI, and the cinematic experience enhances the viewing pleasure. The film's sound design also contributes to the ambiance of the scenes, adding to the overall appeal. However, one downside of the movie is that it feels like a cut-and-paste job, with no attempt to condense the series into a more cohesive narrative. While the humour still resonates with viewers, it's nothing new, and the jokes have already been heard and laughed at in the series. Nonetheless, the introduction of the Swordsmith village is a breathtaking novelty, and fans will be thrilled by the tease of Mist Hashira and Muichiro Tokito.
The film's primary strength lies in its captivating storyline, which boasts thrilling action sequences and first-rate animation. The plot is bound to evoke both laughter and tears from viewers, while the characters leave a lasting impression. The cinematic experience enhances the enjoyment of the movie, providing a magnified viewing experience. However, it's worth noting that a considerable portion of the film is a recap of the anime, with only a fraction of it containing new content. As a result, this movie may only appeal to die-hard Demon Slayer fans. It's essential to view this film as a mere preview, and if you're looking for something entirely new, it might not be the best fit.
