Benkiyalli Aralida Hoovu Movie Review : It is a predictable saga that unfortunately fails to even make the audience empathize with the protagonist.

Sukanya (Anupama Gowda) is married to an auto rickshaw driver, who is usually drunk. The couple have a daughter. She works at a garment factory and with the little money she earns, situations force her to be the bread winner in the family.

The storyline thrives on one among the most common realities among the economically backward class. Here is a woman striving to keep a semblance of order in her life, even as she tries hard to get her husband to kick the bottle. Add to this a twist in plot when Sukanya also faces sexual harassment at her workplace – yet another battle that she is not able to fight and instead resorts to quitting. Ill fate does not end there, as her daughter then meets with an accident. Financial situation dips even more lower and Sukanya resorts to working as a house maid to make ends meet.

While the film focuses on the hardships in one common woman’s life, there isn’t much that it offers in terms of novelty or hope or even relevance in today’s age. It is a predictable saga that unfortunately fails to even make the audience empathize with the protagonist. This film might have just worked fairly well had it been released in the 70s.
