Courier Boy Kalyan Movie Review {2.5/5}: Critic Review of Courier Boy Kalyan by Times of India

Story: Kalyan (Nithiin) reaches the house of an activist (Nasser) to deliver a courier. But there’s someone else waiting for it and Kalyan has to run with the delivery. There’s something sinister in that package and it needs to reach the right handsMovie Review: It is rare to find a film with a runtime of just 104 minutes and that might sound like a good thing. But 10 minutes into the film you are going to realise that even the short duration could seem like an eternity.Adding to the misery is the love track between Kalyan and Kavya (Yami Gautam), a sales girl at a Khadi showroom, which adds no value to the plot except trouble you with randomly thrown in songs. Kalyan sees Kavya, there’s a song. Then he finds a way to woo her, there’s a song. She falls for him, there’s a song. There’s a song at a pub and one for reasons unknown. This would probably seem normal if not for the parallel plot of a medical conspiracy which is the main intent of the film.It is towards the interval that some tension and curiosity is built thanks to a cat and mouse chase which follows. Unfortunately, as the movie catches steam and becomes gripping, the viewer would have lost interest thanks to the ill-placed songs so far and a story which didn’t seem to move ahead for the entire first half!For a thriller, Courier Boy Kalyan’s thrills have no impact. But the film has a few pros like this well-choreographed stunt sequence where the package is passed from hand to hand. And the second half manages to keep you glued to your seats for a while and along with Kalyan, your hearts skip a beat. But such moments are too far and few in between.Nithiin as Kalyan does what is required of him. He looks the part and passes off his act as a courier delivery boy well. Even the romantic track suits him courtesy his boy-next door charm which he does with ease. Yami’s presence is just for the songs. She doesn’t have much to do except look good and dance around the trees. Ashutosh Rana is wasted with a role that isn’t properly defined and is just villainous for villainy’s sake.To lay it on the line, Courier Boy Kalyan is a delivery gone wrong. The route to the delivery starts off on a rocky note and even though it eventually progresses interestingly, it doesn’t help because the package is already damaged. One wishes this delivery was handled more carefully.
