Ayudha Movie Review : Mystery, Violence and Memory Loss in an Old-School Entertainer

Critic's Rating: 2.0/5
By Susmita Sameera

Ayudha follows the story of Kanmani, a police trainee whose life changes overnight after the sudden death of her father, Ashwath Narayan, who runs a fruit juice center. Initially believed to be an accident, his death soon takes a darker turn when Kanmani receives an anonymous phone call claiming that her father was actually murdered.

While still dealing with her grief and the rituals following her father’s death, Kanmani comes across a severely injured man lying on a beach. She ensures that he is admitted to a hospital and cared for, only to later discover that he may be connected to her father’s murder. The rest of the film revolves around Kanmani’s efforts to help the man recover physically while also trying to restore his memory, which has been affected by a serious head injury. As the mystery unfolds, questions arise about who this man really is, what happened to him, and how he is linked to the people responsible for her father’s death.

The film is written, directed, produced by, and stars Devraj Kumar in the lead role. Amrutha G plays Kanmani, while Samhita Vinay appears in an important flashback segment. Raguraj Malnad, Surya Praveen, V Narayan, and others appear in supporting and antagonist roles.

Ayudha feels like an old-school commercial entertainer that does not rely heavily on logic. Instead, it leans into dramatic storytelling, action, romance, and emotional moments. The hero’s memory loss becomes a recurring device throughout the film, with scenes where a blow to the head briefly restores his consciousness, allowing him to fight off villains before slipping back into confusion again. Kanmani’s character also makes unusual decisions, including marrying a man she barely knows, mainly because she believes he is the key to finding her father’s killers.

The story often feels scattered, with several dramatic twists that may not fully connect in a convincing way. On a technical level, the film remains average, without offering anything particularly remarkable in terms of presentation or execution. Overall, Ayudha is a mix of violence, romance, drama, and action presented in a style that feels dated and heavily melodramatic.
