Edagaiye Apaghatakke Karana Movie Review : A Twisty Crime Ride with Left Turns and Dark Laughs

By Susmita Sameera

The story opens with Lohith (Diganth Manchale), an IT professional, standing on the edge of the tallest terrace he could find. In a moment of despair, he quits his job, tosses his office belongings—laptop, phone—over the edge, and prepares to jump. Just then, a stranger (Nirup Bhandari), who has been quietly observing him, intervenes. Calm yet firm, the stranger urges Lohith to choose the battle against depression over surrendering to death. He explains the far-reaching impact of such a decision—not just on loved ones, but even on strangers, like the children playing nearby, whose day could be shattered by witnessing such a tragedy. Lohith hesitates, but the stranger’s words linger in his mind. Slowly, he begins to open up, sharing the journey that led him to this breaking point.

Lohith, a left-handed individual, has long struggled with the inconveniences of living in a world designed for right-handed people. From the smallest everyday tasks to tools and setups designed for right-handed use, he constantly finds himself adapting. Adding to this is the deep-rooted societal stigma that labels the left hand as inauspicious—a belief that has subtly weighed on him since childhood and followed him into adulthood. The narrative then takes a sharp turn into a dark comedy crime thriller, where one unintentional accident sets off a chain of unexpected mishaps. What begins as a moment of adversity quickly spirals into unpredictable events, packed with twists, turns, and dark humour.

We are introduced to a host of characters—Pooja (Nidhi Subbaiah), Radhika (Dhanu Harsha), Shraddha (Radhika Narayan), Praneeth (Saurav Lokesh), a sharp-witted investigating officer (Krishna Hebbale), and Hemanth, the security guard. Each brings a unique, quirky energy to the story, carving out distinct identities that add depth and flavour. Every character has their space to shine, and the actors deliver commendable performances. Nirup adds a calm, positive aura, serving as a quiet anchor amid the chaos. Diganth is the undeniable centre of attention—his magnetic screen presence and impeccable comic timing command the spotlight.

Edagaiye Apaghatakke Karana is technically well-crafted, with effective cinematography and a fitting musical score. The writing begins with good pacing, delivering tension and dark comedy through engaging scenes. However, the narrative loses grip later. Some serious moments feel underdeveloped, especially Lohith’s arc—his upbeat reactions, even after major twists, feel inconsistent. A more gradual emotional shift would have strengthened the film’s well-intentioned climax.

Still, for fans of lighter crime thrillers, this family-friendly film offers entertaining twists, strong performances, and solid execution. Worth a try.
