From stress to stillness: Simple habits for a happier mind
A happy mind seems to be the mirage that every stressed-out mind is chasing right now. We live in times where there is too much noise, chaos, clutter and ultimately no peace. To hope that there will be no stress in life is hoping too much.
So do you, like us, wonder how we can live a happy life without stress? The mantra, according to experts, is simple: for wellness, we need stillness because stillness overcomes mental illness.
Talking about the simple habits for a happier mind, AiR-Atman in Ravi, Spiritual Mentor and Happiness Ambassador, suggested, "Slow down your pace. Spend time in silence. Try to limit desire; because the fire of desire will not quench your thirst, it will only make you burst. Understand the difference between need and greed. When we fulfil our needs with contentment and fulfilment, there is no desire. We then reach a state of awareness, mindfulness or consciousness. We activate our intellect, where we discriminate. Go slow. Try to understand that stress is a choice, so is stillness. When there is stillness, you are able to overcome the mess of toxic thoughts."
According to a recent 2026 study published in Frontiers in Psychology, "Following the 8-week MBSR program, the experimental group demonstrated significant reductions in total scores for both sleep quality and academic stress, alongside a significant increase in total mindfulness score."
As per Scientific Reports (PMC), "The analysis of 17 studies... showed a significant reduction in perceived stress following mindfulness-based interventions (SMD = 0.930, 95% CI 0.620 to 1.230, p < 0.00001)."
What does the mind do? It creates fear, worry, stress, anxiety, regret, shame and guilt. However, AiR-Atman in Ravi said, "We don’t need to let the mind open our door and push us to the floor. We can lock it and block it by being in consciousness. After all, the mind is nothing but toxic thoughts and these toxic thoughts create stress. Have you pondered what stress is? STRESS- it is Sad, Toxic, Repetitive, Exhausting, Suffocating Thoughts. This creates a mess in our life."
We are running a race to be an ace, thinking that success and money bring happiness but according to AiR-Atman in Ravi, success often creates stress in reality. He said, "Let us realise that we need enough achievements to fulfil our needs but we must not let success create greed.
If you want to go from stress to stillness, practise being in silence, in consciousness and when the mind is attacking you, learn the mantra of ABC - Accept, Best performance, Complete surrender and BBC - Bring Back Consciousness. These simple habits like ABC and BBC can change life."
You cannot change what has happened in your life, you have to accept it but you can give your best performance. So, do your best. AiR-Atman in Ravi added, "Once done, relax and surrender - completely surrender. These simple practices can pave the way to a happy and peaceful life. The goal is to eliminate the MIND, which is nothing but Misery, Ignorance, Negativity and Desire. You don’t need any high-tech solutions for a stress-free life. Try stillness. Enjoy wellness. Be in consciousness. Experience eternal happiness. Overcome the misery of the mind. Push it behind. Don’t let the mind ride your horse; be the boss. Try these simple steps and you will reach a state of eternal bliss."
Bringing her expertise to the same, Acharya Anita, New-age Spiritual Mentor, Life Coach and Social Reformer, recommended, "We cannot change our circumstances but what we can change is our relationship with these stressful situations and how we react to them. Inner stability becomes the focal point to remain anchored, even when life unfolds itself in all its uncertainty."
She shared, "Over the years, I have met many individuals across different professions and from different walks of life. It has been seen over and over again that stress is not just created by the situations but by how we resist it by holding it in our body and mind. It manifests in the form of psychological impacts as well as physiological pains. A cluttered mind loses clarity as well as natural inner balance. To achieve inner balance, silence becomes the first step. And this is possible only through awareness. Create small pockets of silence and include conscious breathing in it. Slow, deep breaths help to regulate the nervous system and connect you back to yourself."
According to her, this form of meditation helps you in more ways than one. It enables you to sit with yourself, observe things and situations around you and treat yourself without judgement as you watch your thoughts. This leads to a quiet distancing and the realisation that you are not your stress but merely observing it. This awareness then becomes the foundation of inner stability.
A 2026 study in IOSR Journal of Humanities and Social Science found, "Emotional clarity provides the foundation for understanding and managing inner feelings, physical clarity supports overall well-being and resilience and mental clarity fosters focus and reduces internal noise."
Acharya Anita concluded with the advice, "One must also adapt to intentional disconnection. Step away from the constant stimulation, whether it is situations, people or even your mobile phone. As the external noise reduces, the inner voice gains clarity and helps the mind soak in the peace. As the mind reaches a state of rest, you gain happiness, that is cultivated from inner stability. This happiness cannot be chased but must be found and your reaction to pressure becomes the path to it. This change transforms how you live, think and relate and impacts you as well as the world around you."
Effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction
Studies affirm stillness, mindfulness and conscious practices reduce stress for inner peace and happiness.
