A small family-run soap factory with roots going back to the 15th century produces what is claimed to be the world’s most expensive soap bar. A soap worth more than 2 lakhs!

A luxurious soap bar worth $2,800 or ₹2,32,400 is made by a small, family-owned soap factory in Tripoli, Lebanon. This soap is claimed to be the world’s most expensive, produced by Bader Hassen & Sons, a business that traces its roots back to the 15th century. The company specializes in handmade luxury soaps under the brand Khan Al Saboun, which are enriched with natural ingredients, essential oils, and exclusive fragrances. While the soaps are stocked in some of the most upscale shops in the UAE, their most expensive soap variant is reserved for Very Important People (VIPs) and special guests.

What makes this soap so expensive

The story of the world’s most costly soap began in 2013 when the company first made this exclusive bar as a gift for Qatar’s first lady. What makes this soap truly extraordinary is its infusion with real gold and diamond powder, elevating it beyond any ordinary soap. As reported by BBC’s Tom Santorelli in 2015, the soap has a textured feel due to the inclusion of these precious elements, but CEO Amir Hasen reassured customers in a BBC interview video that it is gentle and not harsh on the skin. “It changes your shower from a daily routine to a pleasure,” Hasen said. “The soap is something really special, it has a psychological and spiritual effect on human beings”.

Soap made of diamond and gold dust

This lavish soap is composed of several rare materials: 17 grams of 24-karat gold, a few grams of diamond powder, pure olive oil, organic honey, aged oud, and dates. The manufacturing process reportedly takes six months. The soap has also evolved aesthetically; initially resembling an expensive wedge of cheese, it is now made with personalized names and plated with 24-carat gold, making it visually stunning as well as luxurious.

Despite its staggering price, it is unclear whether this soap is available for purchase by the general public, or remains a special gift solely for distinguished individuals.
