Lauren Brooke, a North Carolina mother of two, made headlines after a TikTok video of her burning of wedding dress went viral. To celebrate her resilience and self empowerment, she set her wedding dress on fire.
Woman celebrates divorce by burning her wedding dress

Lauren Brooke, 31, was married to her former partner for over a decade. On doing the unthinkable she has managed to capture the internet’s attention. She celebrated her divorce by putting her wedding dress on fire and telling her ex that she’s the best he’ll ever have.
Lauren parted ways with her husband in September 2021 but the divorce was completed by the law in January 2023.
In order to mark the occasion as an empowering one, she decided to mark it with a photo shoot which was shot by her best friend and accompanied by her mother, Felicia Bowman.
The shoot supposedly took an hour. Lauren can be seen setting the dress on fire, demolishing the wedding pictures and ripping her dress apart.
“I survived it, I came out onto the other side. I don’t cry in the morning when I wake up anymore. I am in a better place”, she added. On the reason behind this celebration she asserted, “the intent was to show the fact that divorce is hard, ugly and painful for all the parties involved.”
She punctuated it with a powerful message, she added, “A lot of women are shamed for divorce but men seem to be congratulated for it. We are told that no matter what we’re supposed to stay and keep our family together, but many women struggle with it. We should not be made to feel ashamed.”
While some have criticized Brooke for her actions, others loudly applauded her for marking this as a fresh start and looking at the narrative from a different perspective. Despite the assumptions, Brooke has remained firm that the video is nothing but an act of self empowerment.
