Who owns Galgotias University? Inside the institution facing robotic dog row and fake drone claims
Galgotias University has recently been under online scrutiny after claiming that its staff and students built a soccer drone from scratch on the Greater Noida campus. This controversy erupted the same day the university was asked to leave the India AI Impact Summit expo area in New Delhi due to a separate dispute over the origin of the robotic dogs it showcased.
The soccer drone in question was presented by the university as a fully homegrown engineering achievement, developed end-to-end. In videos circulating online, a Galgotias employee is heard stating, "So they basically, from the end-to-end engineering to the application, we have a simulation lab to an application arena and that's India's first soccer arena on campus."
Social media users have challenged this, pointing out that the drone appears to be the Striker V3 ARF, a ready-made model available in India for about Rs 40,000. This device is actually the Helsel Striker V3, a soccer drone created by South Korea's Helsel Group for drone sports.
Galgotias University is situated on a 52-acre campus equipped with modern labs, libraries, and digital facilities. What began as a vision to broaden access to quality higher education in Uttar Pradesh grew into a multidisciplinary powerhouse, providing all disciplines from engineering to liberal arts. According to newsx.com, the university traces its roots to the Galgotias Education Group, active since 1933, blending tradition with innovation.
While Galgotias University continues to highlight its modern facilities and academic achievements, the recent drone controversy raises questions about the authenticity of some of its claims. As discussions unfold online, the incident serves as a reminder that in today’s digital age, claims of innovation are quickly scrutinized and verified by a wider audience.
The incident has sparked debates about transparency in educational institutions and the fine line between promotion and exaggeration. It also highlights how social media now plays a key role in holding universities accountable for their claims.
