An Indian-origin techie, Vineeth Sendilraj, grabbed an unintended spotlight at an xAI hackathon when a photo captured him chugging water from a bottle. Social media users zoomed in, mocking his "technique" during the intense coding competition. Addressing the frenzy on December 9, Sendilraj tweeted, “1 million people judged how I drink water. I was damn thirsty”.

Sendilraj turned tables when just a week later, he announced joining xAI, Elon Musk's AI powerhouse. In a triumphant tweet, he wrote, “1 week ago I got clipped for drinking water. Now I'm joining @xai to build the future of AI. Full circle moment,” attaching the original viral photo.

Vineeth Sendilraj stood out as one of four Georgia class of 2024 students named US Presidential Scholars from Lambert High School. He was also on the school's track team. In a chat with the school paper, he talked about wanting to make the world better, saying, “Coming from a middle-income family, we aren’t aware of a lot of struggles that others around the world face.” He added, “Trying to create more innovative solutions to help those less fortunate has really opened my eyes to expanding my STEM skills as well as having an impact on others”
