Who is Vijay Kumar, the Indian-origin man accused of killing his wife and three relatives in Georgia

A tragic shooting involving an Indian-origin family in the United States has left four adults dead and children deeply shaken. The case, which police say is linked to a domestic dispute, has drawn attention because of the sudden and violent way it unfolded inside a family home.

The incident took place in Lawrenceville, Georgia. As the Gwinnett County Police said, the accused has been taken into custody and there is no further threat.

What happened before the shooting

Police said a disagreement broke out between a husband and his wife. After this, the couple travelled to a relative’s home along with their 12-year-old child.

Later in the night, emergency services received calls about gunshots from inside the house. When police arrived, they found four adults dead inside the residence.

Family members who died

The woman who was killed was identified as Meemu Dogra, aged 43. Three other relatives living in the same house also lost their lives. They were named as Gourav Cumar, Nidhi Chander, and Harish Chander.

Police confirmed that all four died from gunshot injuries.

Children found safe inside the home

Three children were present in the house at the time of the shooting. Police found them hiding in a closet. They were not hurt.

Officials said the 12-year-old child called emergency services after the violence began.

Arrest and charges

The accused, Vijay Kumar, aged 51, was found a short distance away and arrested. As the Gwinnett County Police said, there are no other suspects in the case.

He is facing several serious charges, including murder, assault, and charges related to cruelty towards children.

Indian mission shares message

The Indian Mission in Atlanta expressed sadness over the incident. It confirmed that an Indian national was among those killed and said help is being provided to the affected families.
